Rafael Viñoly Architects at the 2018 AIA Conference on Architecture in New York City – June 21-23

At the AIA Conference on Architecture 2018, the American Institute of Architect’s membership will convene in New York City from June 21-23.  Over the course of three days, visitors will be immersed in a wide-range of workshops, seminars, tours, and events exploring the ‘Blueprint for Better Cities’ theme, which emphasizes topics such as diversity, equity, and inclusion; smart materials; energy and carbon; resilience; and design and health.

Rafael Viñoly Architects, Mitchell Giurgola Architects, and Ennead Architects will lead several events as part of the Conference, including an educational seminar on the creation of world-class science facilities, guided tours of the The Stavros Niarchos-David Rockefeller River Campus, and the Collaborative Research Center at The Rockefeller University, and the Belfer Research Building at Weill Cornell Medicine.  Rafael Viñoly Architects will also host a studio event at the firm’s New York City headquarters.

In this panel discussion, explore how facilities dedicated to life sciences research and health contribute to the social, economic, and intellectual vitality of many cities.  Panelists will share planning and design strategies employed to integrate three distinct biomedical facilities, each representing a different set of constraints, challenges and aspirations, into the dense urban fabric of New York City, including the Rafael Viñoly Architects-designed, Stavros Niarchos-David Rockefeller River Campus at The Rockefeller University; the Mithcell Giurgola Architects-designed, Collaborative Research Center at The Rockefeller University; and the Ennead Architects-designed, Belfer Research Building at Weill Cornell Medicine.

New York City is home to some of the world’s leading centers of research and clinical care, and a number of them, including The Rockefeller University and Weill Cornell Medicine have recently made significant investments to expand their state-of-the-art research facilities.

This architects guided tour of three laboratories in the City, the Rafael Viñoly Architects-designed, Stavros Niarchos-David Rockefeller River Campus at The Rockefeller University; the Mitchell Giurgola Architects-designed, Collaborative Research Center at The Rockefeller University; and the Ennead Architects-designed, Belfer Research Building at Weill Cornell Medicine, will demonstrate how institutions and their design teams achieve high -performing, state of the art facilities in challenging and constrained urban sites.
