Yesterday, we welcomed students from Columbia University’s MS Real Estate Development program to our New York City office for a talk given jointly by Bruce A. Menin, Principal of Crescent Heights, and Rafael Viñoly, Principal and Lead Designer of Rafael Viñoly Architects.
The talk, part of the program’s ‘Architect and Developer Dialogues’ course led by adjunct professor Raquel Ramati, focused on the property development, and the concept and design of NEMA Chicago, an 896-foot-tall rental residential tower developed by Crescent Heights and designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects.
NEMA Chicago features residential units throughout the building that benefit from a larger than typical structural bay, a distinction that allows for floor-to-ceiling glass windows with zero sightlines and unparalleled lake and park views. The tower’s massing is made up of square structural bays of varying stacked heights, evoking the city’s famous Willis Tower.
