Tsunehisa is a seasoned architect with over 25 years of global experience encompassing feasibility studies, programming, design, and construction administration across a diverse array of project types. His career has spanned North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, where he has successfully managed projects ranging from institutional and civic works to commercial developments and luxury residences. Tsunehisa’s expertise extends to various delivery methods including fast-track and design-build, reflecting his ability to navigate complex projects with efficiency and precision.

Joining Rafael Viñoly Architects in 2002, Tsunehisa played pivotal roles in several high-profile undertakings. Notably, as an on-site project architect for the National Institutes of Health John Edward Porter Neuroscience Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland, he oversaw the development of critical laboratory and public spaces, demonstrating his adeptness in client liaison and project coordination under accelerated schedules. His leadership extended to projects such as the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia, where he directed the on-site enclosure team and contributed to pioneering solutions like the expansive ‘meadow’ green roof. Tsunehisa ‘s career has been marked by his ability to seamlessly transition between technical design development and project management, exemplified by his roles at landmark projects like 20 Fenchurch Street in London and New York University Abu Dhabi.

Tsunehisa’s return to New York in 2009 saw him lead critical facets of projects like the MGM Grand Complex in Abu Dhabi, where he innovatively tackled challenges such as a rotating exterior sun screen and large-scale media wall. His contributions to projects like the Rockefeller University’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation – David Rockefeller River Campus and Columbia University’s Dodge Fitness Center underscore his commitment to enhancing educational and recreational facilities through meticulous design and construction oversight.
