With over 25 years of professional experience, Chan-li Lin has design and management skills cultivated from wide-ranging project experiences. He is personally involved in all phases of a project, from Programming through to Construction Administration, typically overseeing and organizing a large team of architects working on various aspects of the building. He also manages consultant input to achieve code compliance in innovative, complex facilities.
Since joining the firm, Mr. Lin has collaborated closely with Rafael Viñoly and Jay Bargmann on the design and execution of projects for universities, municipal, and private clients in the United States, the Netherlands, and Japan. He has also led design teams for major competitions, including the World Trade Center and the Pittsburgh Convention Center, which resulted in a firm commission.
Mr. Lin has substantial experience leading academic medical and research projects in the U.S.. He has served as Project Director for the University of Chicago Medicine, Center for Care and Discovery; the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building and the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Regeneration Medicine Building at University of California, San Francisco; the University of Pennsylvania Medicine Complex in Philadelphia, and the New Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California.
He travels regularly and has relocated to ensure project quality of services. In 1990, he moved to Japan for a year to work on the Tokyo International Forum, a conference center and performing arts facility. He continued making frequent trips to Tokyo with Rafael Viñoly for the subsequent four years, coordinating with the construction team in Japanese until project completion.
Using knowledge gained from the Tokyo International Forum, he later led the design team for Princeton University Stadium in New Jersey, USA; Vdara Hotel & Spa at City Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; and also relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, USA to establish and manage the site office for the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
